Plaza Mayor Salamanca at midnight
Finally, I went to Salamanca! I went there from Portugal by midnight bus. To go there was the main purpose of this trip. My dream has come true by finally going to Santiago de Compostela and Portugal!
My daughter goes to Salamanca University now. So I had this chance to visit. Salamanca city is one of the most important university cities in Spain and it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Salamanca University is the oldest university in Spain and the third oldest university in the world still in continuous operations. It was given the Royal charter of foundation by King Alfonso IX in 1218. So next year will be it's 800th anniversary. The oldest buildings have become museums and many tourists come. The library is included in these pictures as well. The city was famous for bullfighting and it is said that the letters written on the wall used the blood of bulls during the bullfighting days long ago.
The Black Iberian pig also is famous in the city. So there are many shops with pig thighs hanging from the ceilings! Taste was so great! That's Spain! I wanted to stay longer and walk around to see more places slowly. But my daughter said that one day is more than enough to see the city. So I could stay there only one and a half days. It was very short. But it was a very nice and quiet city!

Olive Tree. Big! Codfish Croquette Beautiful Book Store※
I went around my apartment. It was fun just to only walk around.
First, I went to Sao Bento station※. People say it's "The most beautiful station in the world". It really was beautiful. It's like an art museum. The walls are made from tile. Second, I went to a bookstore. The people also say that this is "The most beautiful book store in the world". Really?😒 They like "The most beautiful" words sounds? But it also was as they said, beautiful! It was one of the locations for the making of the movie "Harry Potter".
Dry codfish is so popular in Porto. There were codfish croquette shops. They are like fast-food restaurants. It was good with beer!
I went to the Atlantic Ocean at last! I wanted to stand at the edge of Portugal and to see the ocean from there. Actually, I really wanted to go to the Monument of the Discoveries and to see it from there. Anyway, it was my dream! I was very glad!
Good-bye Porto! I will come again!
I went to see the Ocean using this tram. Cute!

The city name Porto is from "Port" and Portugal's name was from "Porto". It's not capital but Portugal's history started from here. Porto is not such a big city and we were able to walk just about everywhere within the city. I stayed 2 nights in another rented apartment for less than 20,000 yen for 4 people. Very cheap! It had a good location and a nice room.
I met my friend there and we were together for 4 days. She came from Japan and she was on her way to Morocco from Portugal. The Tapas restaurant we went to our first night was great! Wine too! All the food was very good in Porto. Like Japan they also have pig tripe stew!

I went to a Tapas restaurant. Tapas is like an appetizer or snack. It's a small dish and we can order many kinds of Tapas. So we can share and have fun with each kind of food together. The word "tapas" is from tapar which means "to cover" in English. First, they used a piece of meat or bread to cover a glass of sherry to guard it from flies. Also they used a dish for a cover and then they began to put some snacks on it and they started to call this "Tapas". Even just to see the Tapas restaurant is so fun! It's like a cake shop!
I found a "A-un" statue in Santiago de Compostela! Wow!
I was surprised to see it for real!
This "→" (arrow) is a sign for pilgrims. There were signs of yellow scallop too.
I went to Portugal by bus after that. To finally go there has been a dream of mine! I've wanted to go there for loooong time! Yeah!!
My first impression when I arrived in Porto, was how colorful, pretty and hilly it was! It's like a town for doll's. Using tiles for walls is common? There were many kinds of tile patterns and so very colorful. Although it was rainy when I first arrived I was very excited during these 3 days of our stay!
